December 1999 v 4.5 Release Notes

Features Added to v 4.5:

The following features are included in the December 1999 release:

  • Shadow Web Interface. The Shadow Web Interface is a GUI (Graphical User Web Interface) that allows you to perform many of the same administrative functions available on the ISPF panels. See the Shadow OS/390 Web Server User’s Guide for more information.
  • Shadow_VSAM. This provides an expanded ability to access VSAM data with full integrity, locking and update capabilities. The enhancement also includes a new component for CICS. See the Shadow OS/390 Web Server User’s Guide for more information.
  • Shadow_ADABAS Server. This enhancement provides more granular security to ADABAS data, reducing or eliminating requirement for third party security software. See the Shadow OS/390 Web Server User’s Guide for more information.
  • HFS Support. This allows files (such as, HTML pages, graphics, and scripts) to be stored in the UNIX System Services environment and accessed from the Web server’s rules. See the Shadow OS/390 Web Server User’s Guide for more information.
  • Automated State Management Facility. (ASMF) ASMF implements many basic interfaces that are necessary to maintain in-flight application state information across multiple HTTP request/response interactions. See the Shadow OS/390 Web Server User’s Guide for more information.
  • SWSWTO (API). The SWSWTO function allows a message to be written to the MVS operator console. See the Shadow Programming Guide for more information.
  • APPC Monitoring. This allows monitoring and control of APPC/MVS conversations with IMS/TM in real-time and historical mode. See the Shadow Installation Guide.
  • Load Balancing for Transaction Server for CICS. This directs CICS requests to multiple addresses, thus allowing improved load balancing capabilities for CICS access and integration for large scale production environments. See the Shadow Installation Guide.
  • EXCI Failover. This enables Web applications to deliver unparalled redundancy, recovery, and integrity by allowing an instance of the Web Server to define an alternate CICS for each CICS connection. See the Shadow Installation Guide.

HTML Documentation Format Change

With the release of 4.5, the HTML files only contain developer-to-developer information, such as, Shadow REXXTOOLS, the API index, online demos, and various Web locations to obtain additional information. The following guides are presented in a searchable, PDF file:

  • Getting Started Guide
  • User's Guide
  • Started Task Parameters
  • Installation Guide
  • Programming Guide
  • Messages Guide

There is also a brief (2-page) overview on how to use Acrobat Reader effectively, along with a link to download the latest Acrobat Reader from Adobe's Web site.
